Mobile Communications - Blackberry Handsets to be Launched in India

Bharti Televentures is teaming up with Canada-based Research in Motion to launch Blackberry Wireless Solutions, including messaging service and software, in the India market. Such service will be provided by Aritel, a business arm of Bharti, offering subscribers access to email, corporate data, internet, SMS (Short Message Service), and other personal information features. Depending on the usage and calling pattern, a monthly fee between INR$1,799 (US$39.3;US$1=INR$45.7) and INR$2,799 (US$61.2) will be charged.

 

To accommodate the service, Bharti has also rolled out three Blackberry handsets, with prices ranging from INR$18,990 (US$415.1) to INR$32,990 (US$721.2). Corporate customers, such as bankers, lawyers, and large enterprises, are targeted at the initial stage.
